If you asked us at Belk Ford Inc. for a depiction of the ideal midsize sedan, it more than likely would look and feel a whole heck of a lot like ours, the 2017 Ford Fusion. The American automaker, in our estimation, scored a real slam-dunk with this one.

No doubt one of our favorite powertrains within the Fusion portfolio, the mid-level turbo 1.5-liter four-cylinder is truly a gem. Optional on the SE trim, this four-banger is rated at a respectable 181 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. Standard fare also includes a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Arguably its strongest selling point, however, is fuel economy. Estimated to achieve a terrific 29 mpg combined (25 city/37 highway), this four-cylinder is most certainly a smart one.
